In Japanese tea terminology, mirume refers to the ultra-young, tender, and delicate character of exceptional matcha. Kuon embodies this concept, offering a harmonious balance of softness and depth.

How to Prepare Kuon as Usucha

1. Sift the Matcha

  • 2g (0.07 oz) of matcha powder
  • 1.5 heaping tea ladles (chashaku) or 1 level teaspoon
  • Sift the matcha through a fine strainer to ensure a smooth texture

2. Add Hot Water

  • 60 mL (2 oz) of water at 80°C (176°F)
  • First, pour boiling water into a teacup to cool it down before adding it to the matcha bowl

3. Whisk

  • Use a chasen (bamboo whisk) and whisk vigorously in an “M” motion for 15 seconds until frothy

Pro Tips:
For a smoother experience, warm the tea bowl beforehand and dry it with a cloth
