How to Prepare Matcha as Usucha (Thin Tea)
Step 1: Add 1.5–2 g (approximately 0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon, or 2 chashaku scoops) of matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
Step 2: Pour 80 ml (2.7 fl oz) of water heated to 80°C (176°F) over the matcha powder.
Step 3: Whisk vigorously with a chasen (tea whisk) until a smooth, foamy consistency is achieved.
Tips for the Best Matcha Experience
- Warm the Tea Bowl (Optional): Before Step 1, rinse the tea bowl with hot water and dry it with a cloth. This helps maintain the ideal temperature and enhances the matcha’s aroma and flavor.
- Sift the Matcha Powder (Highly Recommended): To prevent clumps, sift the matcha through a fine strainer before adding it to the bowl.
- Enjoy Immediately (Recommended): Drink your matcha right after preparation to avoid bitterness, as the flavor becomes more pronounced as it cools.
- Preserve Freshness (Highly Recommended): For the best taste, consume the matcha within one month of opening the package. Freshness is key to enjoying its full flavor and aroma.
