Yugen Matcha – A Perfect Balance of Depth and Flavor

Yugen is one of Marukyu Koyamaen’s most renowned matcha varieties, celebrated for its refreshing grassy aroma and well-balanced flavor. With a harmonious blend of gentle bitterness and rich umami, Yugen is an excellent choice for Usucha (thin tea) and pairs beautifully with a variety of traditional and modern sweets.

How to Prepare Usucha (Thin Tea):

1. Sift 2g (about 1 tsp) of Yugen matcha into a tea bowl (chawan).
2. Add 70-80ml (2.5-3 oz) of hot water (80°C / 175°F).
3. Whisk briskly in a “W” motion using a bamboo whisk (chasen) until a fine, frothy layer forms.
4. Enjoy immediately, savoring its elegant depth and smooth finish.
