How to Prepare Usucha (Thin Matcha):

  1. Tools you'll need:

    • Matcha bowl (chawan)

    • Bamboo whisk (chasen)

    • Bamboo scoop (chashaku) or teaspoon

    • Sifter (optional but recommended)

  2. Ingredients:

    • 1–2 scoops of matcha (about 1 to 2 grams)

    • 60–70 ml (2–2.5 oz) of hot water (around 75–80°C or 170–175°F)

  3. Instructions:

    1. Sift the matcha powder into your tea bowl to remove clumps.

    2. Add hot water.

    3. Whisk briskly in an "M" or "W" motion using the chasen until a fine layer of froth forms on the surface.
