How to Prepare Murasakino Matcha (Usucha Style)

You will need:

  • 1.5–2g of Murasakino matcha (about 1 teaspoon)

  • 60–70 ml (2–2.5 oz) of hot water (75–80°C or 167–176°F)

  • A bamboo whisk (chasen)

  • A sifter and matcha bowl (chawan)

Steps:

  1. Sift the matcha into your bowl to remove clumps and ensure a smooth froth.

  2. Heat your bowl and whisk with warm water, then discard the water and dry the bowl.

  3. Add the sifted matcha to the bowl.

  4. Pour in hot water just below boiling (ideally 75–80°C).

  5. Whisk briskly in a "W" or "M" motion until a creamy layer of froth appears on top (about 15–20 seconds).

  6. Enjoy immediately while the matcha is fresh and aromatic.
