Samidori Single-Cultivar Matcha from Uji, Kyoto
Toyo Mukashi (豊昔) is a single-cultivar Japanese matcha made from the Samidori cultivar by Shogyokuen, a historic tea producer based in Kyoto. Grown in Uji, Kyoto, this matcha offers a rich umami character, smooth body, and balanced natural sweetness.
Its depth and smooth texture make Toyo Mukashi well suited to traditional matcha preparation and everyday enjoyment.
Flavor Profile
Fresh vegetal notes lead the cup, followed by pronounced umami and a rounded, creamy texture. Subtle nutty character adds depth, while natural sweetness balances the savory notes and carries into the finish.
A Single-Cultivar Samidori Matcha
Toyo Mukashi is made from the Samidori cultivar, allowing the character of this traditional Kyoto cultivar to come through clearly.
Rather than combining multiple cultivars, this single-cultivar matcha offers a more focused expression of Samidori, making it a good choice for those interested in exploring different Japanese matcha cultivars.
