Usuakari no Shiro Matcha – 40g Tin

Premium Ujitawara Matcha | Crafted by Kouroan

Discover the quiet elegance of Usuakari no Shiro (薄明の白, “White of Dawn”), a finely milled matcha from Kouroan’s own tea fields in Ujitawara, Kyoto. This matcha is made exclusively from first-harvest leaves (ichibancha), ensuring a rich aroma and refined taste. Suitable for both usucha (thin tea) and as an accompaniment to Japanese sweets, it offers balance and versatility for any occasion.

The name Usuakari no Shiro is inspired by a teaching of Sen no Rikyū, who once said that the best time to enjoy tea in autumn is during the faint light before sunrise. Just as the pre-dawn glow transforms the landscape into something ethereal, this matcha invites you to pause, forget the noise of the world, and savor a special moment of stillness.

Features:

  • Origin: Ujitawara, Kyoto, Japan
  • Producer: Kouroan (皐盧庵)
  • Harvest: First flush (Ichibancha)
  • Grade: Ceremonial
  • Flavor Profile: Smooth, umami-rich, lightly sweet with low bitterness
  • Weight: 40 grams (approx. 20–40 servings)

How to Prepare Matcha (Traditional Usucha Style)

What you’ll need:

  • 1 serving (approx. 2g) of Usuakari no Shiro Matcha
  • Hot water (70–80°C or 158–176°F)
  • A small sifter
  • Chawan (matcha bowl)
  • Chasen (bamboo whisk)

Steps:

  1. Sift the matcha into the bowl for a silky, clump-free texture.
  2. Add hot water (about 2 oz or 60 ml).
  3. Whisk briskly in a “W” motion until the matcha becomes frothy and smooth.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy the calm, luminous moment of dawn in each sip.
